What started it all???

I was searching the internet looking for instructions for making a pair of earrings for my father's "lady friend". I used to make bead jewelry (eons ago), but none of that was really catching my fancy. Then I saw a pair of beautiful earrings made of jump rings. I could do that! I had worked with jump rings many times before and already had lots of the tools needed. From there it exploded! By "it" I mean "everything". I researched designs, bought supplies, made a few pieces, got an Etsy account and opened a shop.
But how do I motivate myself to come up with new designs? I don't want to just make the same few pieces over and over again.
Answer: I have decided to take part in a "Pair-A-Day-For-A-Month" Earring challenge. I'll make a new pair every day for all of January. Follow along with me to see if I can really do it. If I can, maybe I'll start a "Bracelet-A-Week" project next!

Day 6

Bubble Earrings:
This pattern is called Bubble Weave. It starts out as a simple 2-1 chain, but with a few simple twists and the addition of a few rings becomes something totally different.

Materials used:
2 copper ear wires
8- 18 gauge, 6mm copper jump rings
10- 18 gauge, 1/4in anodized aluminum jump rings (4 blue, 2 green, 4 brown)

Instructions:
Step 1- Open all of the large rings, close all of the small rings.
Step 2- Weave 4 closed small rings onto an open large green ring and close. Separate the small rings; leaving a pair on each side.
Step 3- Weave an open large blue ring onto 1 pair of small rings and close. Weave another large blue ring onto the opposite pair of small rings and close.
Step 5
Step 4- Here’s where it gets a little tricky. Hold the large green ring in one hand and one of the large blue rings in the other. Fold the blue ring backwards so that it is underneath the large green ring. Separate the pair of small rings, leaving one on the top and one on the bottom. Pull the large green ring and the large blue ring in opposite directions.
Step 5- Repeat step 4 with the remaining large blue ring attached to the large green ring. (You will now have a pair of small rings at the top of the chain and a pair at the bottom. Each pair of small rings will contain one attached to the left large blue ring and one attached to the right large blue ring.)
Step 6- Weave a large brown ring through the top pair of small rings and close. Weave another large brown ring through the bottom pair of small rings and close.
Step 7- Attach an ear wire to the top large brown ring. Done!

Experience Level: Beginner
Approximate Time: 20 minutes

This is another design that I think looks better lying flat on the table rather than hanging. I changed the gauge of wire from the pattern I was following, but I don’t think that had much to do with it. While I was playing around with it, I tried using a middle sized ring on the top and hadn’t put the bottom ring on yet. I realized that it would also look nice with the bottom ring removed and using a drop bead instead. As luck would have it, I had a bead that was perfect!
